Vehicle Description

This 1968 Pontiac GTO coupe was first purchased by the seller in 1973, and it was owned by two of the seller’s brothers from 1975 through 1997, when it was reacquired by the seller. Subsequent refurbishment work lasted approximately 15 years and involved removing the body from the frame, refinishing and overhauling the chassis, painting the body in Verdoro Green, and rebuilding the 400ci V8 and the four-speed manual transmission, while the differential was rebuilt with a limited-slip unit in 2025. Inside, the front bucket seats and rear bench have been re-trimmed in gold vinyl and are accompanied by a rebuilt Hurst shifter, a refurbished steering wheel, and an inoperative eight-track player. Additional equipment includes a body-color Endura front bumper, a twin-scoop hood, retractable headlight covers, and 14″ Rally II wheels wrapped in Firestone redline tires. The body left the factory finished in Verdoro Green and was repainted in 2008, while the hood was repaired and refinished again in 2014. Equipment includes a color-keyed Endura front bumper, retractable headlight covers, a twin-scoop hood, and dual exhaust outlets. The 14″ Rally II wheels are wrapped in reproduction G70-14 Firestone Super Sports redline tires that were mounted in 2024. The frame was refinished and the steering, suspension, and braking systems were overhauled under current ownership. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by front and rear drums. The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in gold vinyl, while faux woodgrain trim accents the dash panel. Amenities include a rebuilt Hurst shifter, a padded dashboard, an AM radio, and a heater and defroster. The eight-track player does not work. The three-spoke steering wheel was refurbished and frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by a tachometer and a combination gauge indicating the fuel level as well as multiple warning lights. The five-digit odometer shows 1,700 miles and was reset to zero during the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown. The 400ci V8 is equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt in 1996 using a Crane Cams camshaft, and the Rochester Quadrajet carburetor was most recently rebuilt in 2017.
